The Michigan Music Conference will celebrate lifelong musicianship by featuring one or more community music ensembles in the evening concert performed in DeVos Hall on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 8:30-10:00pm. In order to provide a varied program experience for the audience and give flexibility to the program planners to provide a true representation of lifelong musicianship, applications may be submitted in one of two formats. Applicants are encouraged to be creative and innovative in displaying the wide range of people who participate in lifelong music making. For example, programs could combine ensembles, include non-traditional groups and/or soloists.
FORMAT A: This option features two 45-minute programs placed on the same concert for a total concert length of 90 minutes. Applicants in this format commit to only one 45-minute program. Only a single community ensemble may apply in this format. The 45-minute time allotment includes setup and teardown time for the performing group.
FORMAT B: This option features one 90-minute program and is intended to showcase one community music program across age levels for the entire concert. Individual community ensembles or multiple groups from a single community music program may apply in this format.
Both application formats require two recordings of excerpts showcasing the ensemble(s) applying. The selection criteria will focus on the quality of recordings and use of innovative and creative programming. Please read on for further details.
On-line application deadline is Friday, May 18, 2018
Candidates will be notified of selection status by Monday, June 4, 2018
